Chinese Kitchen - Little Rock: Reviews & Ratings

As my dining companion at lunch today at Chinese Kitchen said, "This is the ultimate mom and pop place." The older couple, apparently husband and wife, who took our order and prepared our food could not have been nicer. We appreciated that they gave us bottles of water free when we asked for water with our meal. And when the man, who seems to do most of the cooking, brought our food out to us, he couldn't have been more congenial and polite. Given how nice the folks owning and running Chinese Kitchen are, I'd love to give this restaurant 5 stars. I can't do that in good conscience, though, because the food is at best only a serviceable highly Americanized version of Chinese food. It lacks much taste or finesse. There are better Americanized "Chinese" restaurants in our local community. But this is the kind of "Chinese" food many people in central Arkansas really crave, so Chinese Kitchen does a robust business, though it's primarily a take-out place with only three small tables for dine-in customers. Your food comes to you at those tables already in styrofoam take-out boxes, too. The calling cards here for some folks are the two dishes that incorporate fried chicken, warr shui guy and precious chicken. I had the latter, and it was okay, though not in any way exceptional. The batter for the chicken is overly salty, the vegetables served with the chicken are way too overcooked, and there's no hint of seasoning of any kind (e.g., ginger, garlic) other than salt. On the plus side, there were lots of chunks of fried chicken in my serving of precious chicken. So, great welcome and treatment by the owners-cooks, not much atmosphere, and unexceptional Americanized Chinese food: that's Chinese Kitchen.

Chinese Kitchen has been fantastic every time I've been. Highly recommend giving them a try, they are definitely one of the best--if not *the* best--Chinese takeout restaurants in the area.

Orange chicken was great. I don’t think they cook with a lot of sodium which is good for me because I always have to drink a bottle of water after eating Chinese take out. Wait was short and I think I was in and out in less than 10 minutes without placing an order ahead of time.

People call things a mom and pop shop. All the time, but this is really a mom.And pop shop it is ran by two elderly folks that are the best people on earth. It's not much of a dining room. But the food is to die for when you want chinese takeout. They serve drinks in the can, so don't count on a large or something like that, but the food is well worth your time. The dumplings are out of this world and anything involving shrimp is well worth your time. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Located at 11401 N Rodney Parham Rd in Little Rock, Chinese Kitchen - Little Rock offers a classic take on Americanized Chinese cuisine that resonates with many locals. This charming, family-run spot is best known for its welcoming atmosphere, where an older couple handles both cooking and customer service with genuine warmth and politeness. The restaurant’s modest setup—with only a few dine-in tables—leans heavily toward takeout, making it a convenient choice for a quick, satisfying meal.

The menu highlights showcase familiar favorites like Shrimp Fried Rice, Pepper Steak, and the ever-popular Orange Chicken, all prepared with comforting simplicity. The Shrimp Egg Foo Young paired with Chicken Wings and House Fried Rice is a hearty combo that has earned high praise, offering a satisfying balance of textures and flavors without overwhelming complexity. The Orange Chicken shines for its lighter seasoning, appealing to those mindful of sodium intake, while still delivering that sweet and tangy punch fans expect.

While the culinary style leans toward a highly Americanized palate with straightforward flavors, dishes like the Precious Chicken and Warr Shui Guy—both featuring fried chicken—are standout options for those craving a crispy, hearty bite. Though the batter can be a touch salty and the vegetables occasionally overcooked, the generous portions and comforting familiarity keep customers coming back.

Overall, Chinese Kitchen blends homestyle cooking with a straightforward, no-frills approach that suits the cravings of many in central Arkansas. Its strength lies in consistent service, speedy preparation, and a sincere connection between owners and guests, making it a reliable spot for takeout and quick lunches. For diners seeking flavorful, authentic Chinese variety, other local options may better satisfy, but for those after comforting, familiar dishes served with kindness, Chinese Kitchen delivers.
